Laparoscopic gastric sleeve

Gaining weight is one of the major concerns that disrupts our lives. Some people even have nightmares about the numbers on the scale! Many suffer from health problems due to severe obesity, while for others, obesity poses a life-threatening risk, such as for heart disease patients, diabetics, and those with high blood pressure. Their lives depend on losing the excess weight and getting rid of the excess fat.

What is a gastric sleeve surgery?
The concept of gastric sleeve surgery involves reducing the size of the stomach by removing about 70-80% of it, leaving a small portion that resembles a small pouch. This allows the patient to feel full after consuming a small amount of food.

Candidates for gastric sleeve surgery
Certain individuals and specific cases are candidates for gastric sleeve surgery, especially those who suffer from severe obesity to the extent that other weight-loss methods have proven ineffective. These individuals have failed to lose weight despite repeated attempts through strict dietary regimes.

### After the surgery
In the first month after the surgery, patients will adhere to a list of approved foods while the stomach heals. These are simple, easy-to-digest foods and liquids in small amounts that the stomach can handle. You will notice a difference with your first meal, as you will feel full shortly after starting to eat. Over time, you will observe weight loss, increased overall energy, and improved health, especially when following the prescribed vitamins and supplements as instructed by the doctor.

Gastric balloon
This procedure is performed using an endoscope without any surgical intervention, and it takes less than 30 minutes. The balloon is inserted into the stomach and then filled with saline solution until it is full. After about six months, the balloon is removed the same way. Throughout the period that the balloon is in the stomach, it helps the patient feel full after small meals.

Advantages of the gastric balloon
- A non-surgical procedure that does not require incisions or stitches.
- It does not require general anesthesia; only partial anesthesia and a sedative are used.
- Its results are very effective if the patient follows the doctor's post-procedure instructions.
- The cost is lower than surgical procedures aimed at the same goal.
- The ease of inserting and removing the balloon from the stomach, as the process does not take much time.
